Dr. S. Erik Vinge, MD

Stephen “Erik” Vinge, MD, is a graduate of The University of Colorado Medical School (1997). He did his Family Medicine residency at the Southern New Mexico Family Practice Residency. He is board certified in Family Medicine. Dr. Vinge has been practicing in the Las Cruces area since 1998 when he began his postgraduate training. He graduated from the residency in 2000. He likes living in Las Cruces and considers it home. Areas of interest in medicine include: sports medicine, medical education, urgent care, community health and border health. Vinge is a Colonel in the National Guard, having joined in 2005. He has been on five deployments to Iraq, Poland and Kuwait, and served as NM Army National Guard State Surgeon from 2012 until 2018. He was activated for a full year within in New Mexico during the COVID epidemic—March 2020-March 2021. During his deployments and military training, he has learned a lot of trauma skills. Outside interests include: biking, swimming, hiking, throwing pottery, and travel. For him fluency in foreign languages is a moving target always two steps ahead, since fluency is never attainable he admits to being highly functional in both Spanish and Japanese.
