Part-time PSYCHIATRIC MENTAL HEALTH NURSE PRACTITIONER

Part-time position 20-25 hours per week on a Monday – Thursday or Monday – Friday schedule or as negoitiated prior to start date. Preferred start date is on or before 8/4/2025

Position Summary

Amador Health Center seeks a part-time PMHNP – psychiatric Nurse Practitioner bilingual in English and Spanish (preferred) to support psychiatric medication management for both new and existing patients. Hours can be negotiated, 3-5 days per week. This position is onsite at our Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). Provides primary care in the clinic and in outreach settings and is committed to helping improve health outcomes in underserved populations. Provides patient assessment and diagnosis, formulate treatment plans, prescribe medications, order laboratory tests, interpret test results, provide patient education, prepare medical records and refer patients for inpatient care per statutes, regulations, and protocols regulating the profession. Participates in quality assurance/quality improvement, health outreach and education, and integration of behavioral health into primary care in a team environment, so patients receive the highest care possible.

Essential Responsibilities

• Provide therapy to individuals, groups, couples, and families.
• Assess, diagnose, treat, and manage chronic or acute mental health illnesses and crises.
• Prescribe medication and manage psychopharmacologic treatments.
• Evaluate physical and psychosocial well-being.
• Deliver emergency mental health care.
• Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
• Communicate diagnoses and treatment plans to patients.
• Conduct psychological evaluations for mental health disorders.
• Educate communities on mental health concerns.
• Order and interpret laboratory tests, explaining results to patients.
• Offer patient education on medications, including risks, benefits, and expected outcomes.
• Engage in follow-up care and patient communication.
• Provide primary medical care services as needed.
• Collaborate with nursing staff, counselors, and external local counselors.
• Deliver patient care at the clinic and during outreach activities.
• Supervise and direct MA and RN staff.
• Participate in quality assurance/improvement projects and report on patient care issues.
• Ensure compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and other health and safety regulations.
• Actively participate in multidisciplinary teams, including outreach, QI, and patient health education.
• Support the clinical team to ensure efficient clinic operations.
• Represent AHC at health-related collaborative meetings within the Doña Ana County community.
• Stay updated on trends and health issues in the population served.
• Work with medical and behavioral health providers to manage medication and psychiatric services.
• Provide psychiatric health services, education, counseling, and emotional support.
• Perform related duties as assigned or required.

Experience, Knowledge and Skills

Minimum Qualifications: Experience working with under-served populations and providing primary care in a medical/clinical setting.

Desired Qualifications: Bi-lingual in Spanish/English, with experience working with under-served populations with chronic health issues and co-morbidities. Multi-year hands-on experience as an NP. Ability to recognize and address health issues in agricultural workers and people who are homeless.

Education, Credentials, Licenses: Masters of Science in Nursing, with a Psychiatric/Mental Health emphasis, from an accredited college or university, Certified Nurse Practitioner with active NM Medical, DEA, and NM Board of Pharmacy Controlled Substance licenses

Other Requirements: State-issued driver’s license, criminal background check, pre-employment drug test, COVID-19 vaccination, flu shot (or approved waiver).

Amador Health Center is a National Health Service Corps site, and employment may be eligible for loan repayment.
