What started as a small, volunteer-run free clinic in 1990 has grown into a cornerstone of compassionate, community-driven healthcare. Amador Health Center, originally known as St. Luke’s Health Care Clinic, was founded in 1990 on the belief that everyone deserves access to high-quality care, regardless of their ability to pay.
With just a handful of volunteers, the clinic first opened its doors under the guidance of Dr. Stanislaus Ting, who became its first volunteer medical director in 1991. For decades, it operated as a beacon of hope for those without access to medical services. In 2015, a new chapter began when the clinic became a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), and then in 2017, moved into a former family shelter, transforming the 7,000-square-foot space into a hub for integrated care—including primary medical services, behavioral health counseling, and recovery support. To reflect this evolution, the clinic adopted a new name: Amador Health Center.
More than just a healthcare facility, Amador is a trusted community partner, providing holistic, patient-centered services in a welcoming environment. Every week, over 200 patients walk through its doors, seeking care, connection, and support. By the end of each year, nearly 5,000 visits are recorded—each one representing a life touched, a need met, and a step toward a healthier community.
In 2023-24, Amador took another bold step forward, expanding its space once again to enhance behavioral health services and introduce preventive dental care. These additions are more than just new rooms—they represent a growing commitment to meeting the evolving needs of the community.
At its heart, Amador is more than a health center. It is a testament to what happens when a community comes together to care for its own. Every patient, provider, and supporter plays a role in shaping this ongoing story—a story of resilience, dignity, and hope.
Amador Health Center exists because healthcare is more than a service—it is a right, a partnership, and a promise to build a healthier tomorrow, together.
